Battlefield 2042 released last November and crashed like a tank in the middle of a war. Launching issues became apparent and players deserted the line as quickly as a bullet. Despite EA DICE’s commitment to improving the product, which resulted in a 4.0 update packed with changes, the project failed to make it out of the nursing station. And EA’s reaction? They offer a long-term strategy and say they will continue with high expectations.
At the investor meeting where Electronic Arts presented financial results for fiscal year 2021 (which ended March 31, 2022), company CEO Andrew Wilson discussed Battlefield’s unique situation. 2042. The shareholders asked him if the company’s commitment has declined due to the problems and the flight of the players, but the manager flatly denied that they were going to stop investing in the title:
“No, and again, we are aiming for the long term. It’s one of the biggest sagas in the industry, created by one of the strongest teams in the industry, so our expectations will continue to grow. It will be a very important part of our portfolio for many years to come. »
The future? An interconnected universe
The poor results of Battlefield 2042 favored a change of strategy vis-à-vis the EA DICE shooter saga. Vince Zampella, the brand’s new supervisor, not only stressed that they would not only continue to “evolve and improve” the title, but at the same time they would explore “new experiences and new business models” to build on the foundations already established.
The idea is to build a sort of shared universe. “This universe is also built with our community as we harness the power of the portal and user-generated content, which puts creativity in the hands of our players,” Zampella explained.
Battlefield 2042 is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series X and PC. Read our analysis here.
