Microsoft’s Outlook.com is one of the most popular email service providers. In this article, we’ll show you how to sign up, create, and set up a new Outlook.com account – also called Outlook on the web.
Create a new Outlook.com email account
Visit outlook.live.com in your browser to get started.
You want to create a new Outlook account, so click on the ‘Create an account for free‘ button. Now let’s see the different steps for setting up your Outlook account.
1. Select an appropriate username
In the first step, enter the username you would like to have. In case it is already taken, try searching for something similar.
You also have the option to choose the domain – @outlook.com Where @hotmail.com.
Once you have finalized your username, click Next.
2. Choose a strong password
The next step is to configure your password. This is important and crucial, and there are some guidelines that should be followed in order to have a strong and secure password. Your password must be at least 8 characters long and contain at least two of the following: uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.
Also, your password cannot contain the part of your email address that precedes the @ sign. Once you have followed these criteria to set up your password, your password is accepted.
If you would like to receive information, tips, and offers about Microsoft products and services, select the option under the password, then click Next.
3. Fill in name, country and date of birth
In the next step, you need to fill in the details regarding your first and last name. Click on Next.
After that, select the country/region you live in from the drop-down list. Also mention your date of birth by selecting the month, date and year from the drop-down list. Click on Next.
At this point, you have successfully submitted all the information and details you need to set up your MS Outlook account.
The last standard step that one must complete is the Captcha. Basically, captcha is a computer program that helps distinguish human output from machine to prevent spam. All you have to do is correctly enter the characters you see on the screen.
If you are having trouble identifying the characters, you can click New to get a new character set, or you can click audio for audio assistance. Make sure your device’s volume is turned up so you can hear the sound. Once the characters are entered correctly, click Next.
5. Your Microsoft Outlook account is ready!
It will only take you a few seconds to get started. Congratulations on the successful setup of your account! This is what your Microsoft Outlook account dashboard will look like.
In the left pane, you will see the New Message tab and folders such as Inbox, Junk Mail, Drafts, Sent Items, Deleted Items, and Archives. In case you want to search for a particular mail or contact/recipient name; you can do this in the search box at the top of your dashboard.
