The director of District 9 and Elysium turns to video games and presents his first title

Off-grid. This is the name of Neil Blomkamp’s first major project in the video game industry. The director of District 9, Elysium and Chappie opens with a third-person shooter with a triple-A budget and a battle royale format. With this description, many will already think that it is “another generic multiplayer FPS”, but its creators, the guys from Gunzilla Games, have pointed out that it will be quite the opposite. According to them, Off the Grid “will evolve the genre with a strong emphasis on storytelling, led by Neil Blomkamp himself”.

While waiting to see how the two concepts (battle royale and narrative) come together, Off the Grid also announced that the games will have up to 150 players and there will be PvP and PvE modes. The game will work with Unreal Engine 5, is planned for 2023 and even has confirmed platforms: PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. We leave you with a first and very brief trailer:

Neil Blomkamp: Alien 5, video games and horror

This first collaboration of Neil Blomkamp with the world of video games comes after a last film, Demonic, which was already reminiscent of Silent Hill, The Medium and other titles in the sector. A horror film that dared to mix technology, science fiction and demons from beyond. We must admit that well, well said, did not work (to display its 3.6 in FilmAffinity), so knock on wood and hope that Off the Grid has a better result. Neil Blomkamp has shown great skill in the past and we still regret the cancellation of Alien 5, details of which keep coming out from time to time that make it impossible to heal the wound.
