Voicemod Uses Real-Time AI For Voice Conversion, And It’s A Bit Wild

Voicemod launches the world’s first exclusive voice conversion product powered by artificial intelligence. This technology powers an entire collection of voices in Voicemod voice changer software. The Spanish company sees AI-driven voices as a giant leap forward in innovating speech-to-speech voice transformation capabilities.

Voicemod is audio software that offers voice modulation, custom sound effects, and soundboards. It originally started in 2009 with a focus on music, but found real success with a move into games. Voicemod had over 10 million downloads in 2020 and 2.5 million monthly active users.

I was given access to a demo of the software and voices, and it’s kinda crazy. Some of the voices are so specific to what they’re aiming for, y’all. He doesn’t approach the strange valley so much as he sets land speed records, metaphorically speaking.

Do you have a typically male voice but want to have a typically female voice? This thing has you covered, and it’s scary good. Ever wanted to sound like, say, a fighter pilot, but lack the audio skills to overlay jet engine sound effects? He does it for you.

Voicemod’s AI-powered vocal technology both expands the extent to which users can modify a source voice and works to soften accents, or remove them altogether. Or add them too.

It could be amazing for streamers

I can see an immediate use case for this kind of functionality in the gaming realm. Things like Grand Theft Auto Role-Playing servers could become a lot more immersive with people sounding exactly like their character should look.

Let’s be honest here. We can’t all be naturally talented enough vocally to bring a character like Tyrone outto-tune by MaximusBlack live without a little AI-based help.

“We are very excited to introduce the next step in audio expression technology to our enthusiasts
Voicemod user community – and to the rest of the world,” Voicemod boss Jaime Bosch said in a statement to GamesBeat. “Integrating the power of real-time AI voices into our engine, combined with our growing catalog of IP partnerships, enables a level of customization previously not possible in online audio expression and in the metaverse.”

All Voicemod users can have fun right away. The Voicemod AI beta is live and open for users to request priority access. Seriously, it amazed me how some of the new AI voices, like Morgan Freeman’s voice, sounded.
